Liquor deaths: Methanol ‘supplier’ held

Bhachau police arrested a tanker driver from Ahmedabad Thursday night,who had allegedly supplied methanol to brew illicit liquor that has killed three persons so far in Kutch district.

Bhachau police arrested a tanker driver from Ahmedabad Thursday night,who had allegedly supplied methanol to brew illicit liquor that has killed three persons so far in Kutch district.

The driver,identified as Jaymal Ranchhod,was nabbed from the city where he had gone to deliver a consignment of chemical from Kandla port,Bhachau police said.

“The tanker driver is a resident of nearby Rapar taluka. After coming in contact with autorickshaw driver Dinesh Koli,he had delivered two consignments of methanol of 20 litre and 35 litres respectively to him recently,” Bhachau Police Inspector Hayatkhan Baloch said on Friday.

Meanwhile,a local court in Bhachau sent Babu Koli,his wife Rita and Kunvar Koli to 10-day police remand late Thursday evening. The trio were arrested late Wednesday evening with police claiming they brew the spurious liquor and supplied it to Dinesh for distribution.
