Kiran Patel brought to Gujarat, remanded in 8-day police custody

Kiran Patel at Ahmedabad crime branch on Saturday. (Express Photo) An Ahmedabad court remanded alleged conman Kiran Patel in eight-day police custody on Saturday, after a Gujarat police team brought him from Jammu and Kashmir to the city.
Patel was in judicial custody in Jammu and Kashmir where he was arrested for allegedly posing as a senior PMO official.
Patel was handed over to Gujarat police late Thursday afternoon after its request for his custody was granted by the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Srinagar, an official said.
Chaitanya Mandlik, the deputy commissioner of police at Ahmedabad crime branch, told mediapersons on Saturday, “The crime branch arrested Patel, who was in judicial custody in Srinagar, on Friday for a property fraud. He was brought to Ahmedabad by road on Saturday.”

Chavda alleged that the couple duped him of of Rs 15 crore in the name of renovating his residential property in Shilaj area of Ahmedabad in 2022.
Malini Patel was arrested on March 29, and remanded in six-day custody by a local court in Ahmedabad, after which she was sent to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch will probe the conman’s educational qualifications.
“We are only tackling the case registered at our branch for which he has been brought here. In this case, only Patel and Malini are the accused. A 360 degree investigation and interrogation will happen, from his social media accounts to his education qualification, profession etc,” said Mandlik.
The DCP informed that he claimed to be a computer engineer and that he worked in an ad (advertisement) company. Patel has even claimed to have worked abroad. “But we have to verify all that. In case of any discrepancy in his educational qualification or anything, we will file a complaint accordingly,” added Mandlik.
He has also claimed he pursued a one-year executive MBA from Indian Institute of Management at Trichy in Tamil Nadu during 2021-22, police said.
As per the FIR in the case over Jagdish Chavda ‘s complaint, Patel had told him that he was a “Class 1 Officer in the PMO” and claimed to be connected to a “big Adani project”.
The couple was booked under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 170 (personating a public servant) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
