Just bead it

Fashionista as are always worried about what to wear to the next party. What bag to carry—Gucci or Fendi? What shoes to wear? Choos or Loubs?

When accessories overpowered menswear, and how to keep your hat on

Fashionista as are always worried about what to wear to the next party. What bag to carry—Gucci or Fendi? What shoes to wear? Choos or Loubs? I too found myself in a fashion fix. Except that,I wasn’t deciding what to wear— I was just wondering whether to place a silent bid on the Roberto Cavalli or the Versace being auctioned by Fashion for Relief at the LFW.

Most Delhi designers tell me that Mumbai is not really the hotspot when it comes to fashion. So I was surprised to see Varun Bahl here trying to chat up Sabina and Anil Chopra. But amidst all that was happening, the guests just couldn’t stop raving about Sabyasachi’s line.

His silhouettes a little more casual this time, and he employed net in earthy tones, ethnic prints and patchwork. His netted skirt was especially lovely. But it was Sabya off the ramp too, with Sabina (his longtime regular),Sonam Kapoor,Vidya Balan and plenty of other guests sporting the designer’s clothes.

I’d walked into Anand Kabra’s show hoping to see some striking motifs on clothes. I was not really disappointed because the circular motifs on the tops and saris stood out. Genelia D’Souza after her appearance on the ramp for Manish Malhotra was then spotted wearing a Kabra dress. But I guess she forgot to carry her jewellery along.

And now for the show we have been waiting all year long,I mean all season long…Little Shilpa’s accessory show. I was amazed by her collection last season, but this time it was a notch higher. Exhaust fans and military helicopters mounted on the head made for a brilliant view. So what if I won’t wear a hat, with or without fans on it. I can recognise creative genius when I see it.

Even Adhuna Akhtar seated in the front row couldn’t stop raving. “I want to own it all,” she chirped to me later.

And it was definitely a day for celebrity daughters. First Sonakshi Sinha walked the ramp for Malaga, wearing a big, gorgeous beadwork neckpiece. I know for a fact now that Sonakshi is looking at a career in modelling. “I enjoy this so much,” she told me excitedly,in between posing for pictures. But the person who really caught my eye was Queenie Dhody’s teenage daughter,Tiara. Mum hooted proudly as her little princess strutted down the runway.

At the Carlsberg Lounge. I was greeted at the door by Vinay Pathak who looked a lot like my favourite hug-man Prahlad Kakar, who was of course there, with his hat on. As he brought me a drink,Prahlad told me about how he’s lost friends by talking to journalists. “I once told a reporter that Arti Surendranath is one of the three worst dressed women in Mumbai, and since that day,Arti looks through me,” he said, shamelessly gleeful.

Menswear Day here was rather ho-hum with the usual straight-cut cotton trousers and jackets dished out by Digvijay Singh and Rohit/

Abhishek. I really sat up when I noticed that the models had moustaches drawn in kohl. Talk about creativity. If only that had extended to the clothes.
