THE Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Sunday announced a statewide ‘Jan Akrosh Yatra’ from November 21 to voice issues of farmers, students, youth, women, small traders and marginalised communities.

The Jan Akrosh Yatra – to be launched from Dhima in North Gujarat – will cover seven districts, 40 talukas and 12 cities in its first phase. The first phase will cover 1,100 km before concluding at Becharaji Temple in Mehsana district on December 3. The details of the second phase have not yet been revealed.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Chavda on Sunday said, “The BJP rule in Gujarat for the last three decades is tantamount to enslaving and exploiting the people. Today fear, hunger and corruption has been created in Gujarat, where bureaucratic rule prevails instead of government and the constitutional rights of the people are being taken away.”

GPCC President Chavda alleged BJP’s anti-farmer policy has left farmers in Gujarat under a debt of Rs 56,000, each leading to several farmers committing suicides. “The farmers are being given only Rs 3500 against a loss of Rs 50,000 as compensation in the name of relief package. Due to commercialisation of education, education has become difficult for poor families, while law and order has deteriorated in the state,” he said.

To highlight all these issues, the Yatra will start from Dharnidhar Temple in Dhima, Vav-Tharad in North Gujarat and end on December 3 at Becharaji’s Bahuchar Mata Temple.

Calling the yatra a movement for change, Chavda said it marks the beginning of Congress’s long-term campaign leading up to the 2027 state elections. “We are starting this journey with the resolve for a change,” he said.

Congress Party Leader in the Legislative Assembly, Dr Tushar Chaudhary, stressed on the MNREGA scam and alleged that the government is trying to cover up the corruption. “Even though there has been corruption of Rs 434 crore, no investigation has been done. A big scam in the Nal Se Jal scheme has also been raised by Congress repeatedly but no action by the government,” Chaudhary said.

“As many as 5,646 schools do not have playgrounds, there is a shortage of more than 40,000 teachers, and according to a Central Government report, 3.21 lakh children from tribal areas are malnourished,” he said, adding that unemployment is so high in the state that that 3,150 applications are received against the recruitment of only 5 staff nurses.

The Congress leaders announced that issues of all sections of society including farmers, youth, women, small traders will be highlighted during the ‘Jan Akrosh Yatra’,

Appealing to the people of Gujarat, Chavda said, “This yatra is not just political propaganda, but a struggle to make your issues reach the government. During the yatra, Congress will have a direct dialogue with farmers, women, youth and other sections offering a ‘people’s platform’ to raise their issues.
