Anganwadis to provide micronutrient diet to adolescent girls in Gujarat
Cheif Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the state government will provide a complete micronutrient diet to adolescent girls in Gujarat. Introducing micronutrient premix for 44,000 Anganwadis in Gandhinagar,Modi said the move aims to improve the health of malnourished children. He said the diet will comprise a premix of four protein-rich traditional food items sukhdi,balbhog,upma and siro. Seventy-odd food items can be made from the premix,which will be distributed at the anganwadis. he added.The premix will be a blend of soyabean,cereals and pulses containing 18 to 20 per cent protein and 600 gram kilocalories. State Women and Child Welfare Minister Anandi Patel,who was also present at the function,said Gujarat is the only state to take this initiative. She added that new facilities like lavatories and playgrounds were also being provided for students at 47,000 anganwadis across Gujarat. The government has provided a Rs 100-crore special grant to improve the anganwadi infrastructure.
Car catches fire due to overheating,cops launch probe
A CAR parked outside the Western Indian Automobile Association (WIAA) premises on Bodakdev Road caught fire due to engine overheating,on Tuesday. The car (GJ 5 TP 4623) belonged to one Kaushik Patel of Surat. The incident led to commotion as people in the neighbourhood believed the fire was an act of arson; the reason being that the rear side caught fire first. But the police and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) refuted such allegations. Inspector B K Purohit of Vastrapur Police said: We have taken note of the incident. We had called the FSL officials,who have stated that the engine caught fire due to overheating.
Woman electrocuted while trying to save son
JAMNAGAR: A woman was electrocuted while trying to save her 12-year-old son in Hared village on Tuesday,the police said.
Kuldeep Goswami (12) was playing on the terrace of his house when he received a jolt from an overhead high-tension line. Hearing his cries,his mother Ramilaben (37) rushed to save him,but was electrocuted. Kuldeep has been kept under observation at the G G Hospital.The police have registered a case and begun probe.
Surat Youth Cong rallies against SMC
SURAT: Youth Congress leaders along with residents of Punagam took out a rally in Surat on Tuesday against the alleged failure of the civic body to provide basic amenities like water,drainage and road in the area. The rally started at Mangadh Chowk and culminated at the Varachha zone office. They later met Varachha zone executive engineer D M Jariwala and lodged a complaint.
