Ketan Desai’s judicial custody extended
NEW DELHI: A court here on Friday extended the judicial custody of former Medical Council of India (MCI) president Ketan Desai and three others in an alleged graft case,by 12 days.
Additional Sessions Judge Saini sent Desai,J P Singh,Kanwaljit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh to jail till June 9 after they were produced on the expiry of their judicial remand.
Meanwhile,Desai,whose bail application was earlier dismissed by Judge Saini,has approached the Delhi HC,which has sought response from CBI on his fresh application.
CBI had arrested Desai on April 22 for allegedly accepting bribe for grant of permission to a Punjab-based medical college to recruit a fresh batch without having the requisite infrastructure.
The court had earlier allowed CBI to interrogate Desai and the three in view of their alleged non-cooperation in the ongoing probe in the case. Desai,alleged middleman J P Singh and doctors Sukhwinder Singh and Kanwaljit Singh of the Patiala-based Gyan Sagar Medical College have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other charges.

Class 8 to be merged: Ramanlal Vora
Ahmedabad: In over 5,000 primary schools in Gujarat,class VIII will be merged with the primary sections,said state Education Minister Ramanlal Vora in a press release on Friday. Nearly 10,000 Vidya Sahayaks will be appointed and paid Rs 10,000. Vora said: The move will benefit students from rural areas. Earlier,they were forced to change their schools due to non-availability of higher secondary schools in their villages.
