Bomb hoax call sends Ellisbridge police into a tizzy

Panic gripped the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad in the early hours of Saturday when a person called the police control room and said a bomb was planted under Lakadiya Bridg. Police Inspector J B Gadhvi said,“The caller claimed he was one Bhagwan Patil who had recently come out of the Sabarmati jail after serving his term in an extortion case. He said he met some prisoners who told him that some terrorists were in the city and they have hidden a bomb under the bridge near Shah Alam Dargah.” The police then searched the place with the help of bomb disposal squad and dog squad, but no suspicious object was found. The police have begun investigations to trace the caller.

Bomb explosions: No arrest yet,FSL report likely on Monday

VADODARA: While Vadodara Police officials are yet to arrest anyone in connection with Friday’s bomb explosions in Manjalpur area, the samples of the explosives have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Gandhinagar for further investigation.

On the other hand,an uneasy calm prevailed in the area a day after the bomb explosions that rocked the city in the early hours of Friday morning sending police officials and district administration in a tizzy. A resident of the area said the blasts were meant to scare the residents of the otherwise peaceful locality situated in the Western part of the city. “Manjalpur is not the kind of locality where someone would blast a bomb. It is aimed to create panic among people,” he said on a condition of anonymity.

Makarpura police officers have not arrested anybody in connection with the incident. However, sources in the police station said that on Friday evening three persons were picked up for questioning but were released later. Makarpura Police Inspector R M Bhadoria confirmed late on Saturday evening that no arrests have been made in connection with the explosions.

Forensic experts said the samples have been sent to FSL Gandhinagar. However the results of the test will be available on Monday. “We are expecting the FSL Gandhinagar on Monday to give a detailed report,” said a forensic official.
