Housebreakers run away with pistol,cash

The incident occurred when the owners of the house were out on Diwali vacation early this week.

Some unidentified persons allegedly broke into a house on Amin Marg in the city and took away a pistol and cash, collectively worth Rs 3.48,the police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the owners of the house were out on Diwali vacation early this week.

The thieves entered the house of Sagar Rughani by breaking its back door open. The miscreants took away a 0.32 pistol worth Rs 88,000 and 40 imported cartridges valued Rs 10,000 and cash Rs 2.5 lakh kept in the safe,Malaviyanagar police officials said.

Police said that the theft took place between Monday and Thursday when Rughanis were away on a trip to Sasan Gir in Juanagdh to celebrate Diwali. When they returned home on Thursday, they found the back door of the house opened and filed a complaint.

“The modus operandi of the theft suggests it is a handy work of habitual housebreakers. While they took away the firearm and cash, they did not touch imitation jewellery kept in the house,” said Mulu Godhaniya,Police Inspector of Malaviyanagar.

Rughani, who runs a car accessory showroom on Gondal Road, had purchased the pistol a few months ago after getting due licence for it,he added.

“This is a serious crime as the weapon can be used to commit other crime. While we have not made any arrests, efforts are on to nab the culprits,” the officer further said.
