Taking a strong note of police inaction in catching the convicts who have jumped parole, the Gujarat High Court has sought a report from the state government on such prisoners, and what actions the police and jail authorities are taking to arrest them.

During the hearing of an appeal,Justice Bhagwati Prasad had come to know that an accused had jumped his parole and demanded extension of his furlough.

Following this,he summoned all the concerned senior police officers — Additional Director General of Police V V Rabari,Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Ashish Bhatia,Inspector General (Prisons) Keshav Kumar and Superintendent of Sabarmati Jail V Chandrashekhar — to remain present before it on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the court asked them as to what steps they were taking to bring back the convicts who had jumped parole. The judge asked them to submit the report by Thursday.

Additional Public Prosecutor Maulik Nanavati said,“It has come to the notice of the court that several convicts are absconding after jumping parole. So,it has asked the government as to what steps are being taken to arrest these convicts.”
