Rain-related incidents claimed 19 more lives in Gujarat, taking the toll to 26 in three days, while around 17,800 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas as heavy showers lashed parts of the state for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday, officials said.
The deceased include seven persons who went missing after the tractor trolley they were travelling in was swept away while crossing an overflowing causeway near Dhavana village under Halvad taluka of Morbi district on Sunday, a police official said, adding their bodies have been recovered.
Even as rains took a pause in Vadodara, it grappled with flooding in a large swathe of low-lying areas after the Vishwamitri river, flowing through the city, breached its banks and entered residential localities, inundating buildings, roads and vehicles. (PTI)

Amid heavy rains in Gujarat, the Indian Coast Guard has rescued 13 fishermen on board a boat adrift in the Arabian Sea off the coast in the state's Devbhumi Dwarka district, the maritime security agency said on Wednesday.
Acting on an SOS message from the owner of the fishing boat ‘Padmawati' on Tuesday, the ICG deployed its advanced light helicopter (ALH) and a ship for their rescue, it said in a statement.
The vessel was around 15 km from Dwaraka and had suffered a machinery breakdown due to rough weather and inclement sea conditions off the coast, it said.
“The ICG, as ‘First Responder At Sea', immediately deployed an ALH helicopter to take stock of the situation. Meanwhile, ICG ship Abheek was diverted for the rescue operations, despite adverse weather and very rough sea conditions,” it said.
In a nightlong operation, the ship towed the boat amid hostile weather conditions and brought it to Okha safely on Wednesday morning. All 13 crew members were safe, said the statement. (PTI)

NDRF rescues 51 persons from Sheetal Nagar in Akota area of Vadodara. With many parts of Gujarat’s Vadodara city remaining inundated on the second consecutive day, the situation is “alarming” and the Army has been called in to carry out relief and rescue work, the state government said on Wednesday. "In addition to a team each of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and SDRF along with a column of the Indian Army already working in the city to help stranded people, we have pressed into service three new Army columns and one more team each of NDRF and SDRF to evacuate people and distribute food packets," Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said.

Some areas were under 10 to 12 feet of water, said Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel.
The Vishwamitri river which flows through the city crossed the danger mark of 25 feet on Tuesday morning following heavy rains and the release of water from Ajwa dam, he told reporters here after a review meeting with senior officials.
"Water level of Ajwa Dam is 213.8 feet at present. We have closed the gates so that no additional water goes into Vishwamitri river. The river is currently flowing at 37 feet, well above the danger mark. Water has spilled into the city and many areas are flooded," he said.
Four columns of the Army are at present engaged in relief and rescue work in the city, the minister said.
Siddharth Nagar, Akota, Harni-Sama road, Fatehgunj, Munjmahuda and Vadsar were among the worst-affected areas, said Patel, adding that more boats have been sent to expedite the relief and rescue work. (PTI)

Of the five persons who were missing after a tractor-trailer which they were riding was swept away in a river in Dhavana village of Morbi on Sunday night, two more found dead. With this, death toll in the incident has gone up to five while three more are still missing, say government officers in Morbi district.

Several districts of Saurashtra region, especially Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Rajkot received very heavy rainfall in 24 hours ending 6 am on Wednesday, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) data showed. As many as five columns of the army were deployed in Morbi, Anand, Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot and Vadodara each to carry out relief and rescue operations, officials said.

Minister of State for Education, Praful Pansheriya inspected the flooded section of National Highway 27 near Maliya, in Morbi on Wednesday.
Pansheriya is the guardian minister of Morbi district. The National Highway which connects Saurashtra region to Kutch district and to Kandla and Mundra ports has remained closed to vehicular traffic since 11:30 AM Tuesday due to flooding between Maliya in Morbi and Samakhiari in Kutch.

Two people were killed in rain-related incidents in Surendranagar, Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel said during a meeting with officers of the district administration while reviewing the flood situation. He added that 13 livestock heads were also dead.
Madhya Gujarat Vij Corporation Limited (MGVCL) MD Tejas Parmar said that 68 feeders and 365 transformers are currently submerged under water.
Two sub stations at Vidyut Nagar Colony OP Road and in Atladara area are also submerged under water and have been currently shut down.
At 1pm, Ajwa and Pratappura reservoir levels stood at 213.75 feet and 229.65 feet respectively even as Vishwamitri river remained flooded in almost the entire city.
VMC clarifies that the level of 35.25 feet of Vishwamitri is the maximum sensor level and the current level of water cannot be estimated.
Several messages poured in from stranded residents in Akota, Sayajigunj, Karelibaug seeking rescue from the NDRF.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued residents from flood-hit Vadodara on Wednesday.
Parbat Pathar, a farmer from Zinavari village in Jamjodhpur taluka of Jamnagar district is missing since he was washed away while attempting to cross a flooded Vartu river near his village at 9 PM Tuesday, the district administration of Jamnagar said.
The Indian Army undertook a rescue operation in Ward No.1 of Khambhalia town in Devbhumi Dwarka district. The Army rescued 50 people who were trapped in floodwaters, Devbhumi Dwarka district collector GT Pandya said.
Dr Sheetal Mistry, the Chairman of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has appealed to NGOs to join in relief operations.
Mistry also said that the VMC is in need of 1.2 lakh food packets.
Ajwa reservoir rises and is currently at 213.75 feet, posing a threat of overflowing automatically at 213.85 feet. The Pratappura reservoir is at 229.80 feet, as of 9:30 am.
The city lodged 06.00 mm (0.24 inch) of rain between 8 am to 9:30 am on Wednesday.
Rescue operations are underway in YKGN Society in Khambhalia town of Devbhumi Dwarka district. Khambhalia has logged around 15 inches of rains during 28 hours ending at 10 am on Wednesday.
A total of 25 people were rescued from the society.

The Maliya-Samakhiari section of National Highway 27 between Morbi and Kutch is still closed to traffic due to flooding following discharge of large volumes of floodwaters from Machchhu-II dam.
The highway is the lifeline between Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat. The National Highway was closed at 11:30 am on Tuesday. Sagar Bagmar, Superintendent of Police of Kutch (East) said the highway is likely to remain closed for 36 hours beginning at 11:30 am Tuesday.

Dr Sheetal Mistry, the Chairman of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) told The Indian Express that the gates of Ajwa reservoir have been closed 213.65 feet since 10pm on Tuesday.
"However, there are other water bodies along the course of the river as well as other water that is entering the Vishwamitri that could cause its level to rise... The Ajwa valves are automatically set at 213.85 feet after which it will automatically begin to flow. We have an orange alert today and we will keep a watch. We were expecting the water to go down within five hours but it would ideally take about 24 hours to recede if there is no rain," Mistry said.

Floodgates of Bhadar dam, second largest reservoir in Saurashtra region, were opened after the dam got filled to its capacity last night.
419 villages in Saurashtra-Kutch regions were without electricity supply due to extremely heavy rains. They include 196 villages in Jamnagar district, 51 in Surendranagar, 44 in Porbandar, 41 in Rajkot, 39 in Kutch, 32 in Rajkot, 9 in Amreli, 6 in Junagadh and 1 in Bhavnagar.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has successfully rescued 52 individuals stranded in the flood-affected Savli area of Vadodara. Responding to urgent calls for help, Team 6I from the 6th Battalion, stationed in Vadodara, mobilized quickly, reaching the vicinity of Urmi School & Hostel at 3:50 PM.
The rescue operation was a success, with the team bringing to safety 38 men, 9 women, and 5 children from the Harni and PNT colonies. As heavy rains continue to impact the region, the NDRF remains on high alert, ready to assist those in need and ensure the safety of residents in affected areas.

As heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Madhya Gujarat, the Madhya Gujarat Vij Corporation Limited (MGVCL) is taking significant measures to ensure safety. Superintendent Engineer DV Patel announced that 20 feeders have been shut down due to the floods, affecting around 10 lakh consumers.
With waterlogging expected to worsen, many residents are proactively requesting to have their electricity meters turned off for safety reasons. Patel confirmed, "We have been receiving numerous calls from consumers in several colonies where basements have flooded." He emphasized that once the waters recede, the affected feeders will be restored promptly.
This situation highlights the urgent need for safety measures during extreme weather events. MGVCL is working diligently to address consumer concerns while prioritizing safety in these challenging conditions. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
As of 4:34 PM, the Vishwamitri level at Kala Ghoda has hit a critical 35.75 feet, reaching the maximum sensor reading. Mobile services are disrupted across the flooded areas, although rainfall has paused since noon. The fire department is actively engaged in rescuing residents stranded in severely waterlogged colonies, particularly in Vadsar, Harni, and Vishwamitri. Many of these areas remain inundated, leaving residents without water and power supply. Authorities are working tirelessly to assist those affected by the flooding.
Exceptionally heavy rainfall measuring over 300 mm lashed several areas of Gujarat and some parts of eastern Rajasthan in the last 24 hours, data issued by the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday showed. Meanwhile, at least five people have lost their lives in rainfall-related activities in the last 24 hours since Monday.
The dry desert of Kutch reported flooding following incessant rainfall since Monday. The otherwise arid region experiencing extreme temperatures has, this year, recorded unprecedented rainfall spells. Flooding in eastern Rajasthan has forced the closure of roads connecting Banswara - Udaipur and many inter-district roads.
Meanwhile, districts along Gujarat's north and northeast, adjoining Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, received record rainfall as high as 340 mm in a day. Some of the wettest areas were Morbi, Vadodara, Anand, Panchmahals, Kheda, Kutch, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Mahisagar where rainfall measuring over 200 mm (exceptionally heavy rainfall category) was reported on Tuesday.
Janmashtami Mela, the annual cultural fair organised by the state government in Rajkot city, cancelled following extremely heavy rain on Tuesday. Vendors who had spent around Rs 2 crores for purchasing plots for setting up stalls and amusement rides at the fair to get a full refund, says Rajkot district collector Prabahv Joshi.
Director in-charge Ramashray Yadav at IMD’s regional centre in Ahmedabad warns against ‘Extremely heavy to exceptionally heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely in the Saurashtra region’ on Tuesday.
Since Monday, Gujarat has reported four deaths due to relentless rains. According to State Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey, “A total of four deaths one each in Morbi and Dahod district and two in Gandhinagar district have been reported so far since Monday." This brings the total number of deaths in the state this monsoon season to 100.
The heavy rains have taken a major toll on railway traffic with the Western Railway (WR) now cancelling a total of 56 trains in the Vadodara Division, affecting not just Central Gujarat, but also movement between Gujarat and Maharashtra as well as impacting all trains passing through Gujarat to North India.
In a video statement at 12 pm, an official of the WR said that due to severe waterlogging at three locations including Bajwa and Ranoli in Vadodara, a total of 56 trains had been cancelled, 15 short terminated and 43 trains had to be diverted along other routes.
Trains coming to Mumbai from Rajasthan and Jammu have been diverted towards Ratlam, Godhra, Vadodara and Surat. Trains from Maharashtra going to Gujarat and Rajasthan have been either diverted or short-terminated
Several memu trains have been cancelled, especially between Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
Major trains that have been cancelled include the Rajkot to Mumbai Hapa Duronto Express, Karnavati double decker, Ahmedabad-Howrah Express, Gujarat Superfast Express and Jamnagar Humsafar Express.
The Western Railway warned that all trains between Gujarat and Maharashtra have been impacted in some manner and that passengers should check the schedule of their trains before planning their journeys.
Amidst fears of flight delays and cancellations in light of the inclement weather, the management of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad warned passengers to allocate extra time for processing and reach the airport a little earlier. Passengers have also been asked to check flight schedules regularly.
Airport officials confirmed that, as of Tuesday morning, there has not been any major impact on flight schedules at this airport. However, flights that had arrived late, were departing late from Ahmedabad. There have not been any flight diversions so far.
Railway traffic in Central Gujarat has been badly impacted due to heavy rainfall in the previous 48 hours. Most affected are trains passing through and operated by the Vadodara division of Western Railway (WR).
With 12 trains cancelled on Tuesday, 5 were short terminated and 6 were run on diverted routes due to waterlogging at Bajwa station.

Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey on Tuesday stated, "CM Bhupendra Patel has held a meeting today with all the district officials through videoconference and directed us regarding human life... He directed us that people shouldn't face electricity shortages, medicinal shortages and other needful things. In the coming 2-3 days, rain is expected as forecasted by the IMD, also Janmashtami is there and hence leaves of all the district collectors and concerned officials have been cancelled and they are expected to join the relief and rescue work..."

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning issued at 10 am on Tuesday (valid for three hours):
- Moderate Thunderstorms/Lightning: Expect isolated heavy rainfall ( 15 mm/hr) with wind speeds reaching 40-60 km/h (in gusts) in the districts of Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, and Rajkot in Gujarat.
- Light Thunderstorms/Lightning: Expect moderate rainfall (5-15 mm/hr) with wind speeds reaching 40-60 km/h (in gusts) in the districts of Morbi, Surendranagar, Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Ahmadabad, Gandhinagar, Mahesana, Patan, Khera, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Daman, Banaskantha, Sabar Kantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Tapi, Dangs, and Valsad.
In response to the ongoing heavy rains, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a crucial safety advisory on Tuesday.
🌧️ Avoid waterlogging-prone areas: Steer clear of low-lying areas and streams that can flood rapidly.
🚗 Travel tips for commuters: If you need to travel, exercise extreme caution. Reduce your speed, keep headlights on, and avoid driving through flooded roads. Remember the mantra: "Move back, don't risk, don't sink."
🏠 Stay Indoors: If possible, remain indoors or seek safe shelter to avoid the risks associated with stormwater flooding.
🏚️ For those in Kutcha houses: Evacuate immediately and find shelter in a secure location. Secure outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent them from drifting.
🔔 Stay Informed: Keep up with weather reports and emergency alerts through local news or official channels.
🛠️ Emergency preparedness: Have an emergency kit ready, including water, food, flashlights, and first aid supplies, in case of power outages or other emergencies.

Video of the overflowing Vishwamitri river, causing floods in the Manjalpur area of Vadodara city.
At 9 am on Tuesday, the river is flowing over the 33.75-feet mark in most parts of the city with as many as seven bridges closed due to the floods.
Vadodara city has received 239.50 mm (9.43 inch) rainfall in the last 24 hours until 8 am.

Sardar Sarovar Dam recorded a level of 134.73 meters at 8 am on Tuesday with an inflow: of 323057 Cusecs and discharge from 23 open gates and a Riverbed Powerhouse of 395686 Cusecs. The Canal is also releasing 22046 Cusecs of water.

Electricity supply has been turned off in 6500 of 10000 transformers in the city due to waterlogging. Vadodara Municipal Corporation has also closed the water pumps due to waterlogging in the supply facility.
Heavy rainfall lashed Gujarat in 24 hours until Sunday morning inundating low-lying areas, disrupting normal life and traffic movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall warning for the state till September 1.
Five talukas — Vapi, Kaprada, Pardi, Umarpada and Khergam — in the southern districts of Valsad, Surat and Navsari recorded the highest rainfall between 250-330 mm.
A few places such as Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli and Bhavnagar, and Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch are expected to see isolated extremely heavy downpour on Monday and Tuesday respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for several districts in Gujarat, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days. In response to this severe weather warning, district administrations have announced the closure of schools and colleges on Tuesday across the affected regions.
The red alert will be in effect for the Saurashtra region, including Kutch, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad on Tuesday. On Monday, heavy rains caused significant flooding in Gujarat, leading to the evacuation of over 4,300 people from Vadodara, Navsari, Valsad, and Surat. The most severely impacted districts include Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Navsari, and Panchmahal. Jayesh Khadia, Chief Fire Officer of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), reported that a bus from Srinath Travels became stuck in an underpass. The rescue team successfully retrieved 25 individuals, including two children, from the stranded vehicle.
