FIRs against 14 for ‘anti-national’ posts during Operation Sindoor, 1 held in Surat

While the Gujarat Police has registered FIRs against 14 people for sharing posts on social media platforms during Operation Sindoor that were “anti-national”, “negative” and “demoralising for military”, Surat police arrested a youth from Amroli for his “objectionable” comments on the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

The Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed 26 civilians’ lives.
As per an official release by the state government, two FIRs each were filed in Kheda and Kutch districts, one each in Jamnagar, Junagadh, Vapi, Banaskantha, Anand, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Patan and Godhra districts and one in Surat city.

The man from Surat, identified as Dipenkumar alias Dipensingh Rajeshbhai Parmar (40), had uploaded a 2.41-minute-long video on ‘Jago India’ YouTube channel and its Instagram and Facebook pages. The video was later removed by the police from all platforms.

In the video, it was alleged that the conspirators behind the Pahalgam terror attack are in India.

Amroli police inspector J B Parmar said, “The accused provides business tips to people on social media, and charges them. We have arrested him and confiscated his mobile phone, which he had used to make the objectionable content. He confessed to making the video and uploading it on social media platforms a few days ago. We have deleted it from different platforms. The accused’s mobile phone has been sent to FSL to fetch more details about videos deleted from his phone.”

The government release, meanwhile, stated that Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, had issued instructions to take stern action against “elements” who shares “anti-national” posts.

“With that, state police chief Vikas Sahay too had given orders to observe such posts on social media which are anti-national, negative, demoralising for military, false, rumours or which can jeopardise military’s security and immediately register offence against such elements and to take expeditious and stern action against them,” the release stated.

The release also said that Gujarat police’s intelligence branch and social media monitoring unit had kept special vigil on such activities, following which they zeroed in on 14 people.
