The Gujarat government in its written replies to starred questions raised by Congress MLAs in the Legislative Assembly Thursday stated that the number of total unemployed persons — both educated and semi-educated — in the state is 2,83,140.

A total of 2,70,922 educated people were found to be unemployed in 31 districts and another 12,218 semi-educated were unemployed, the Gujarat Assembly was informed.
The Gujarat government in its written replies to starred questions raised by Congress MLAs in the Legislative Assembly Thursday stated that the number of total unemployed persons — both educated and semi-educated — in the state is 2,83,140.
However, during the question hour, in response to the question raised by Congress MLA Arvindbhai Ladani from Manavadar, on the number of unemployed persons in Junagadh and Porbandar districts, Labour, Skills and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput stated that against 10,323 and 4,644 unemployed persons in Junagadh and Porbandar districts, respectively, 4,573 in Junagadh and 4,051 in Porbandar district were employed in the private sectors.
The data of 31 districts by the state government states that 4,70,444 were employed in the private sector.
The highest number of unemployed persons were reported from Vadodara district (26,507) followed by Anand (18,525), Ahmedabad (17,896), Mahisagar (13,539) and Panchmahal (12,289).
“About one-and-a-half lakh youths have been given government jobs by the state government in the last five years and 9,626 unemployed persons were employed in Junagadh and Porbandar districts. Efforts have been made by the government for their skill development and livelihood,” Rajput stated in his reply.
India’s unemployment rate is 4.4 percent while Gujarat’s rate is only 2.2 percent which is a matter of pride for Gujarat, he added.
According to the report of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, Gujarat is the first in providing employment in the entire country, the minister stated in his response.
The minister added that the unemployed can register on the Anubandhan portal launched by the Government of India to provide employment to the unemployed in the state.
Apart from this, district employment fairs and employment oriented activities are organised by employment exchange offices managed by the state government.
However, Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar raised a point of order stating disparities in the number of unemployed persons and those employed in the private sector in several districts.
The minister responded by stating that since all persons do not get themselves registered with the state government’s employment exchanges, there might be a difference.
However, the government will check if still there is any difference in the numbers, he added.
