Gujarat: Mines dept official arrested, three others booked for ‘demanding’ Rs 2 lakh bribe

The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested a senior clerk and booked three other officials of the Mines and Minerals Department in Vadodara for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 2 lakh on behalf of the “whole office” from a sand stocker in lieu of processing his application, according to a statement.

According to the ACB, the accused have been identified as Senior Clerk Class-3 Yuvrajsinh Dilipsinh Gohil, Assistant Bhustar Shastri Class-2 Ravikumar Kamleshkumar Mistry, IT Executive Class-3 Kiran Kantibhai Parmar and Royalty Inspector Class-3 Sanket Patel, all from the Mines and Minerals Department in Vadodara. Gohil has been arrested in connection with the case. All four have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, said the ACB.

The complainant in the case had filed an online application regarding stocking of sand with the Mines and Minerals Department. Gohil allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh on behalf of all the staff of the office to clear the complainant’s application, said the statement.

As the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he approached the ACB, following which a probe was launched into the matter, according to the statement.

Police Inspector DD Vasava of Narmada ACB set up a trap at Premavati Hospital in Vadodara on May 12, where Gohil was nabbed red-handed accepting the bribe amount from the complainant, said the statement.

The ACB further said that Gohil and the other accused had also held telephonic conversations about the acceptance of the bribe. Gohil was arrested and further investigation into the matter is underway, said sources.
