Gujarat High Court receive bomb threat, police say ‘hoax’ after thorough search
FIR registered, probe initiated to find origin of email

Gujarat High Court on Monday received a bomb threat via email that later turned out to be a hoax, police said after searching the premises. Soon after receiving the email, the court suspended post-lunch proceedings to evacuate it premises.
Ahmedabad Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Safin Hasan, told this newspaper that an FIR was lodged at Sola police station and a probe was initiated.
“An email from an unidentified source was sent to the official email address of the Gujarat High Court. We have registered an FIR at Sola police station and a probe has been initiated to trace the source and origin of the email… After conducting a thorough check of the premises, it was concluded that the threat was a hoax. However, the bomb detection and disposal unit continued the search of the premises (till late evening).”
According to the police, the email was received at the ID of the court registry just before noon. The sender claimed that an IED device had been fitted inside the court building and that it “would explode in the evening”.
The threat prompted Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal to suspend post-lunch court proceedings, with the Court Registrar General requesting lawyers and litigants to vacate the premises at the earliest.
The entry and exit gates of the high court were closed. Officials of Ahmedabad city police Zone 1 as well as the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad arrived at the premises in the afternoon. Senior officials said that the cyber cell of the Ahmedabad police has also begun its probe.
