Gujarat: GPCB issues closure notices to 15 textile units for violating pollution norms
GPCB sources said these factories can restart operations after setting up wastewater facilities and obtaining the requisite departmental nod.

The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) on Saturday issued closure notices to 15 textile firms in the Surat district. The units were allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into a creek connected to River Tapi – an important source of water for residents of Surat city.
Sources said Surat GPCB officials recently received complaints that some textile firms on the outskirts of Surat city were violating pollution norms and did not even obtain the requisite permission from the department to run the units.
Thereafter, GPCB officials carried out checks and found 15 textile units in Laskana, Udhna, Pandesara, and Pipodara violating pollution norms.
GPCB sources said these factories can restart operations after setting up wastewater facilities and obtaining the requisite departmental nod. They added that another drive will be carried out soon on the outskirts of the city where new textile units have come up.
The textile firms that received closure notices are Galaxy-Madhuram Enterprise, K D Nero Fabs, Creative Textiles, HSV Enterprise, Vishwa Textiles, Anjani Textiles, Vaibhav-Laxmi Textiles and Jari Works, Shivam Nero Fabs, Tushar Threads, and Chirag Textiles in Laskana; Swaminarayan Traders, and Supreme Dyechem in Pandesara GIDC; Shiv Enterprise, and Satyam Trading Corporation in Udhna; and HMH Metals in Pipodara.
