In Gujarat, first 4 FIRs under BNS filed in Gandhinagar — majority for ‘public obstruction’

The first FIR was lodged at the Sector 7 police station at 1.15 am under the BNS section 285, which is a bailable offence.

The Gujarat police has registered a total of 7 FIRs under the new criminal law Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Monday, among which four have been registered in the state capital Gandhinagar, said Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay.

The first FIR was lodged at the Sector 7 police station at 1.15 am under the BNS section 285, which is a bailable offence. The BNS section 285 (Whoever, by doing any act, or by omitting to take order with any property in his possession or under his charge, causes danger, obstruction or injury to any person in any public way or public line of navigation, shall be punished with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees) is same as the IPC section 283.

The FIR has been booked against Vishal Rajput (19) for allegedly blocking the Sector-11 State Transport bus depot’s main entrance by leaving his snacks handcart near the entrance.

While the panchnama at the crime scene was completed between 12 am to 12.45 am, the FIR was lodged based on a complaint by a police constable Umeshkumar Ambalal.

Another FIR has been lodged against Dixitbhai Revabhai Parmar (42) at around 1 am at Sector 21 police station under the BNS Section 281 (Whoever drives any vehicle, or rides, on any public way in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human life). The accused, a Rajbhavan Staff Quarters resident and an auto driver, was allegedly driving his autorickshaw rashly, endangering lives of others.

A third FIR has been registered at the Infocity police station against Dinesh Keshuram Gujjar (19) under the BNS section 285 for obstructing the public road by putting up his pani puri handcart.

In a similar instance, Nikul Bihola (19) has also been booked under the BNS section 285 at Chiloda police station, at around 1 am, for parking his motorcycle that obstructed public movement.
