Former Amraiwadi MLA Jagdish Patel emerged a figure name among the various Gujarat leaders who campaigned for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
Patel is part of the core team that handled the campaigning in Varanasi from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting.
A senior party source said that Patel had been camping in Varanasi six months before the elections were notified. “Jagdish Patel is definitely being seen as a person who will take the place of the late Sunil Oza as Modi’s confidant in Varanasi,” the source added.
Oza, a former BJP MLA from Bhavnagar, was in charge of the Varanasi constituency for several years before he died of heart attack in November last year.
