Gujarat: 26-year-old BLO found dead in bathroom of her house

A 26-year-old Surat Municipal Corporation employee and Booth Level Officer was found dead in her apartment bathroom on Monday, prompting an accidental death probe as police await the autopsy report.

A 26-year-old Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) employee – working as Booth Level Officer in Surat city – was on Monday found dead in her apartment’s bathroom.

According to Surat Rural Olpad police, Dinkal Singodawala, a technical assistant with Varachha Zone in SMC, was assigned BLO work for the ongoing SIR drive. Her operational area was booth number 9 at Sir JJ School, Shahpore.

Police sources said Dinkal – a resident of Gruham Society at Masma village in Olpad taluka – was found lying unconscious on the bathroom floor by her husband Mahesh. After she took unusually long to come out, Mahesh broke open the washroom door and rushed Dinkal to a private hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, police say.

Surat district Deputy Collector and ARO (Area Returning Officer of 156 Surat East) Anita Vanani said, “The incident saddens us as Dinkal had performed well in her duties as BLO. She had completed over 45 per cent of her allotted work. This morning, she was found unconscious in the bathroom of her house and was later declared dead by doctors. The police are carrying out investigations.
