Two groups of people clashed when one person allegedly misbehaved with a passerby’s wife in Amraiwadi. The police have identified the accused as Biju Nepali,Muni Gopal Kaliyo,Manoj Agrawal,Ashish Gallwalo,Vishnu,Piyush and Joginder — residents of Agrawal Compound — and about 20 others from the victim’s side.

The victim,Dinesh Parmar,was going home with his wife,Jayshree,when the accused reportedly passed lewd remarks on Jayshree. They also made casteist remarks on Parmar and beat him up with sticks.

A mob of about 20 came to help Parmar and pelted stones at the accused. The investigation of the case has been given to the deputy superintendent of the SC/ST Cell.

In the second incident,clashes erupted between Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation staffers and cattle rearers in Amraiwadi area. One police inspector and one labourer were reportedly injured in the incident. One of the accused was later arrested by the police.

The police said that sanitary inspector Motisinh Solanki (51) was on duty along with other staffers to catch stray cattle in the area when the accused — Shakra Rabari,Vipul Rabari and Moti Rabari of Vishwakarma Society in Amaraiwadi and eight others — attacked the AMC staff.

According to the police,a group of 11 people pelted stones at the AMC authorities later. When the police reached the spot,the rioters also pelted stones at their van.

After the arrest of Shakra,more people assembled outside the police station and pelted stones.

The police have registered a case of rioting and hurt in both the cases and begun further investigation. Arrangements have also been made for maintaining tight vigil in the area till Wednesday,the police added.
