The state government on Wednesday didn’t accept the resignation of IPS officer D G Vanzara, arrested in fake encounter cases, who quit after indicting Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The state government cited pending inquiries against Vanzara as reason for not doing so.

“There are cases going on against Vanzara. His resignation cannot be accepted,” said a top official of the state Home department.

Vanzara (59),a Deputy Inspector General of Police, presently under suspension, had resigned, accusing the state government of failing to protect police officers who fought against “Pakistan-inspired terrorism”.

A 1987 batch officer, considered close to Modi,Vanzara said in his resignation letter, dated September 1,that police officers involved in alleged fake encounters “simply implemented the conscious policy” of the government. He accused former minister Amit Shah of betraying him and 32 other officers who are in jail in connection with encounter cases.
