Fourteen tribal students of the Surat District Panchayat School have beaten pupils from private schools and abroad in case study and debate competitions at the International Council for Students Quality function at Lucknow,recently.
The students of Class VI and VII bagged two awards on Problem solution of primary students (bad habit,mischievousness,stealing) and Debate competition on How I can change the quality of education at my primary school level at the event held at the City Montessori School between December 2 and 4.
Over 1,800 students from 32 countries like the US,the UK,Germany,Bangladesh and Pakistan participated in the events,which included debate competition,elocution,essay,and case study.
Primary students from 10 different states participated in the competition. From Gujarat,the event saw participation by students of four private schools based in Surendranagar,Halol and Jamnagar.
The students from the Surat District Panchayat School were taken under the special category.
District primary education officer Dr P N Dave and his team felicitated the students upon their return on Monday evening.
Dr Dave said: We had made a representation to the organisers that our government-run school should be selected as we wanted to test their intelligence level. Our teachers had put in a lot of efforts for months. The students who participated in the competition were from each taluka in Surat district. I am satisfied that our students were from Gujarati medium and they had participated in these competitions in English language.
He added: We are happy that our students have performed well.
