The Gujarat government said Monday it would study the full judgment of the Supreme Court on relocation of Asiatic lions to Madhya Pradesh before deciding its future course of action on the issue.

The Gujarat government said Monday it would study the full judgment of the Supreme Court on relocation of Asiatic lions to Madhya Pradesh before deciding its future course of action on the issue.

“Before taking any step,we will study the Supreme Court judgment to find out on what basis they have arrived at this decision,” Finance Minister and state government spokesperson Nitin Patel said Monday evening.

However,Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh welcomed the SC order, saying it would not only result in creation of a new home for the lions but also ensure a rise in their numbers.

“MP has made adequate arrangements to shift and rehabilitate Asiatic Lions and taken all steps for their conservation. I hope the new home will result in enhancement of their population in the country,” Chouhan said.
