The general board of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Friday passed a resolution that proposed to name a flyover at KKV Chowk on Kalavad Road as ‘Shree Ram Bridge’ to commemorate the inauguration of a Ram temple in Ayodhya on Monday.

Jaymin Thakar, chairman of the standing committee of RMC, on Friday moved a proposal as an urgent item on the general board meeting, proposing to rename the flyover.

Thakar’s predecessor Pushkar Patel seconded the proposal. After Rajkot Mayor Nayna Pedhadiya accepted the resolution and listed it for consideration, the board approved the proposal.

“When the idol of Ram Lalla is to be installed in Ayodhya on 22nd (of January) as an atmosphere resembling Ram Rajya is prevailing in the entire country, we declared in the general board meeting that the bridge at KKV Chowk will be christened as Shree Ram Bridge,” Pedhadiya told the reporters later.

The bridge, over the Chimanbhai Shukla flyover on a 150-foot road, was constructed by the RMC for a cost of Rs 129 crore. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in July last year.

An official release from the RMC said that Ramesh Oza, a religious leader known for his discourses on Bhagwat Purana, will unveil the plaque of the bridge on Monday, the day the consecration ceremony of Ram temple is scheduled to be held in Ayodhya.
