A primary school headmaster in Mahisagar has been arrested and booked under the Prohibition Act after he was allegedly caught in an inebriated state while on duty during a surprise visit by the District Primary Education Officer Avaniba Mori Saturday.
The incident happened Saturday morning when Mori, who was on surprise visits to various primary schools in the district, arrived at the Vachalwada primary school in Kadana taluka.
When the DPEO met the headmaster, Sardar Kula Malivad (51), and asked him questions about the school, he was an alleged “unstable” condition and “unable to speak coherently”.
Suspecting that Malivad was under the influence of an intoxicant, Mori immediately called the local police and initiated a formal action against him. The headmaster was brought to the Ditwas police station where he was formally booked under the relevant sections of the Prohibition Act, according to an FIR filed by DPEO Mori, who is the complainant in the case.
Malivad was arrested after undergoing the mandatory medical tests. In the FIR, Mori said, “When I asked him to produce some files pertaining to the school, he could not do so as he was disoriented. There was a foul smell of an intoxicant as he tried to speak in a slurred speech. When I asked him for pass-permit to consume alcohol, he could not even produce the same.”
