Digvijaya: Does BJP want a dress code for Muslims?

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday took a dig at the BJP asking whether the Opposition party wants to impose a dress code on the minority community.

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday took a dig at the BJP asking whether the Opposition party wants to impose a dress code on the minority community. Reacting to reports about the BJP asking Muslims to come in burqas and skull cap to attend Narendra Modi’s rally in Jaipur on Tuesday,Singh said,“Modi,in the last three months, has been trying his best to mollify Muslims’ sentiments against him for obvious reasons. Their think tank has briefed the BJP that they cannot get beyond 200 seats (in the Lok Sabha) without bringing Muslims on their side. The most ridiculous statement of the BJP is to ask Muslims attending Tuesday’s rally to wear burqa and skull cap so that their presence could be publicised through the media.” “Would the media now ask the BJP about its intent to have a dress code for Muslims? Or,are they doing votebank politics? On the one hand, they are instigating communal riots,as is apparent from the involvement of BJP MLAs in Muzaffarnagar riots, and on the other hand, they are asking Muslims to attend BJP rallies in a specified dress code,” said the senior Congress leader.
