Cops to keep data on migrant labourers

With the rising number of thefts in the city,the Vadodara police is now planning to collect data about the labourers,especially migrant labourers,working under various projects in the city,including construction projects of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).

According to Commissioner of Police Rakesh Asthaana,people who employ daily labourers such as contractors for various digging works and telephone cable laying works will now be required to give their details to the police.

“In the guise of manual labourers,some gangs operate in the area creating havoc for the people. Recently,terrorists have also employed such tactics to conduct a recce of the potential targets,” said Asthaana.

He added: “So,it has become important to have all the details of the labourers migrating to the city,”

He has sent a notice to all the concerned departments in this regard.

The notice is prepared with reference to the Security Act of 1973 and Section 144 under CrPC.

Police have now sought details of the employment,the employer’s name,identity proof of the labourer,his place of origin,details about coming to the city and going out of the city,among others.
