The cyber cell of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch Friday launched an mobile phone application called Help in Emergency (HIE) to facilitate quick contact with friends or relatives during emergency.
The application was launched at an exhibition to spread awareness about detection and prevention of cyber crime cases in the state.
It has been designed specially to help women in trouble at odd hours,officials said.
HIE is an application developed to help citizens in emergency,especially the women during night, Crime Branch Sub-Inspector T R Bhatt said. Developed by Yash Rajpurohit,a cyber crime consultant with the Detection of Crime Branch,the application is supported by Android 2.0.
The application can help to trace the place of incident and thus cut down their time of reaching the spot,said cyber cell officials at the exhibition. Once the application is downloaded,an icon shows up on the phones home-screen.
The software HIE was designed after the Delhi gangrape victim and her friend failed to find help after the assault on them when they were dumped on the streets.
Cyber cell officials also set up a kiosk where visitors could talk to police one-on-one about cyber attacks and their prevention.
ACP (cyber cell) K N Patel said,Besides the software,we have gave presentations on various types of cyber attacks on social networking sites,online banking,tours and travels. We have also made an arrangement to them who want to know more about the crime pattern. The exhibition is going to be concluded on Sunday.
