Constable falls off retired cop’s terrace,dies; suicide suspected

A constable deployed at the residence of retired police officer V L Solanki died reportedly after falling off the bungalow’s terrace in the early hours of Sunday.

A constable deployed at the residence of retired police officer V L Solanki died reportedly after falling off the bungalow’s terrace in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mukesh Kaniyalal Solanki (23). He was recruited as constable recently and posted at the New Ranip police Station.

Police said they received a call around 3 am that Mukesh had fallen off the terrace. They said Solanki’s family claimed that the incident took place around 2.30am.

“Preliminary investigation suggested that he suffered a grave internal injury. Postmortem showed that he suffered brain hemorrhage and a lung injury. No external injuries were found except for a fracture in the right arm,” said Inspector S K Vala.

Vala added,“At this point,we cannot ascertain if it’s a case of suicide,though Mukesh’s family believe he might have committed suicide. We can find out the cause of death after forensic analysis.”

Local forensic officials have collected samples of his body and Solanki’s house,he said.

Police said Mukesh was deployed at Solanki’s house one and a half months ago. Two other constables were also posted there,who stood guard in three separate shifts.

A case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is on.
