As part of the state-wide protest against the state government over the hooch tragedy, the Congress leaders of south Gujarat organised demonstrations in Bardoli on Tuesday.

The protest here was part of the party plan to hold demonstrations over the deaths of several people in the tragedy in different parts of the state including Porbandar,Sabarmati,Karamsad and Bardoli.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Congress leaders gathered near Sardar Patel statue at Surti Jakat naka in Bardoli and held demonstrations.

Tushar Choudhary, the newly elected MP from Bardoli constituency, said,“The state government has failed in controlling law and order in the state and the hooch tragedy incident which claimed lives of many people is the limit of (poor governance) of this government.”

He said,“The Congress MLAs were not given time to discuss the issue in the Assembly and were insulted in the House. Narendra Modi went to Mumbai to give cheques to the police officials who died during the terror attack there but he has no time to meet the family members of those who died due to consumption of spurious liquor.”

Senior Congress leader Kadir Pirzada said: “The government machinery is losing its grip in controlling the law and order in the state. We have demanded the resignation of Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Day by day the crime graph is rising. We want to tell the people of Gujarat that they kept faith on Modi who had given false assurance of keeping the state terror-free but terror attack took place at Ahmedabad and even 30 bombs were planted in Surat city.”

Around 2,000 Congress workers including party MPs,MLAs and district and taluka panchayat presidents took part in the demonstration.
