Congress leaders on Thursday snapped water connection of Rajkot Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Bhrambhatt to protest against irregular water supply in the city.

Congress leaders said the city is reeling under major water crisis and the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has turned a deaf ear to the problem.

The RMC has imposed water cut after every two days to meet the shortage in supply. Sources said the water level in all major reservoirs in the city, including

Aji-I,Nyari-I,Lalpari and Bhadar, have gone down. Besides, supply from Narmada river is also inadequate and erratic.

Two days ago, city president Jaswantsinh Bhatti had given an ultimatum to the RMC authorities alleging negligence on their part and said the RMC officials are responsible for the water shortage. They had also said that they will submit a memorandum to the chief minister,if no step is taken.

On Thursday, despite having heavy security cover

at municipal commissioner’s residence,Congress leaders barged into the house from the rear side and snapped the water connection. “RMC’s step to impose such a cut is not justified. This is inefficiency on their part. Moreover,if the city is reeling under a crisis, the municipal commissioner has no right to receive water,” said Bhatti.
