Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela, who began his three-day fast on footpaths near the Sabarmati Ashram along with state party president Arjun Modhwadia to expose the alleged farce, lies and corruption of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, said heavens would not have fallen on the people of Gujarat if Modi had not gone on fast.
Vaghela said if Modi at all wanted to fast,he could have done so at his residence in Gandhinagar without wasting money from public exchequer.
Is it a fast or festival that national BJP leaders and NDA allies are coming to meet Modi at his fast venue, he said, alleging that the government machinery was being used and people were being brought in planes and luxury buses.
Regarding the presence of Muslims at Modis venue,Vaghela said minority community members were asked to come and greet Modi by issuing them threats.
Stating that Modi government was mired in corruption from head to toe,he said that CAG had pointed out corruption to the tune of Rs 26,500 crore.
State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said Mahatma Gandhi never claimed that India became independent due to him. But Modi never tired of claiming that development in Gujarat has taken place due to him, he said.
Why did not you go on Sadbhavna fast in 2002 when communal riots took place or when former BJP minister Haren Pandya was killed? Modhwadia asked.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said Modi was forced to go on fast owing to corruption cases against him highlighted by the Congress and media.
