Class X results out,pass percentage dips

THE Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) Class X results declared on Saturday saw a slight decline of around 2 per cent in the pass percentage,compared to last year which was at 69.1 per cent. 75.05 per cent girls cleared the exam while only 65.65 per cent boys cleared the exam,lesser than in 2011,when 67.82 per cent boys cleared the exam.

A total of 9,10,362 students took the class X exams in 735 centres in the State. With a pass percentage of 98.88 per cent,Ranuj was declared as the best centre while Kheda with a passing rate 88.02 per cent positioned itself as the best district.

Khanvel and Jamnagar were among the worst scorers in centres and districts respectively.

The decision of the State Education Department to replace the list of toppers with grades and percentile seemed to have gone down well among the students as well as their parents.

A large number of students and their parents were seen celebrating the results at the Sanskar Bhawan. City mayor Asit Vora also visited Sanskar Bhawan to congratulate the students.

There was an increase in the number of students who scored an A1 grade,with 7661 students scoring this high grade. Similarly,there was an increase of 136 schools that scored a 100 per cent result.

Among the three different mediums opted by students in the State,Hindi medium students remained to be the worst performers. The pass percentage of students who opted Hindi medium was 59.95 per cent,Gujarati medium was 68.36 per cent while for the English medium,it was 93.40 per cent.

Among the seven subjects,mathematics recorded the maximum number of students with 100 marks as well as the least pass percentage. English had the best pass percentage of 98.40 while Mathematics recorded a percentage of 75.81.
