(Express Photo) A Class 12 student of a Surat school was caught while using mobile phone during the ongoing Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) examinations on Thursday, education department officials said adding that they have started procedures to register an offence into the incident.
According to Surat District Education Officer (DEO) Dr Deepak Darjee, the girl student was found using mobile phone while writing the Chemistry examination.
After the girl was caught red handed, the invigilator of the examination hall informed the control room of Surat DEO, who reached at the examination centre. The education department officials questioned the girl and later asked her to go home without continuing the exams.
The DEO also handed over an application to the Umra police station seeking to register an offence against the girl.
Surat District Education Officer Dr Deepak Darjee said, “We have seized the mobile phone used by the student during her exams. As per rules, we have to send her answer sheet separately to the board with a note mentioning that the student was caught using unfair means during the exams. The board members will seek explanation from the student and decide on further action against her.”
The student will be allowed to write the remaining examinations, the DEO added.
Umra police inspector A H Rajput said, “We have received the letter from Surat district education department We will take advice from the district government pleader on further action. “
On Thursday, out of the 16,542 registered students in Surat, of 16,397 appeared for the board examinations.
