CID hands over probe papers to CBI

State CID (Crime) has handed over investigation papers related to the Tulsiram Prajapati Encounter case to the CBI.

State CID (Crime) has handed over investigation papers related to the Tulsiram Prajapati Encounter case to the CBI. The Gujarat Police had earlier refused to hand over the same to the CBI,saying that they had sought legal opinion of the advocate general and that the CID has been probing the case.

A senior CBI officer confirmed the development. “We have received a bunch of documents. We will go through them first and see what other documents are needed,” he said.

The CID has, however, said that they have not handed over all the papers but only first part of the report.

Deputy Inspector General (CID) I M Desai said: “We have given copies of the original report of investigations. We have only handed over the papers that contain the fake complaint filed by Banaskantha SOG with the railway police stating that Prajapati had escaped from the station. The former had secured the latter’s custody that way. ”

He added: “There are other papers as well on the encounter at Ambaji, but since the CBI has not asked for it,we have not given those papers. They had only asked for the papers on how Prajapati’s custody was taken by the Gujarat Police.”

The CID and CBI were at loggerheads over the case papers. The latter had said that despite several notices since February, the former was not handing over the probe papers. The CID had, meanwhile, sought the opinion of the Advocate General whether to hand over the papers or not.

State police chief S S Khandwawala said: “They wanted to take permission because the Supreme Court had given the investigation of Sohrabuddin Sheikh Fake Encounter to the CBI and not the Prajapati case.
