Cellphone recovered from Surat jail

An inspection team paid a surprise visit to newly built Surat Central Jail on the directions of the Inspector General of Prisons and recovered a cellphone from a jail inmate on Thursday evening. A complaint was lodged with Sachin police station in this connection,police said.

While carrying out checking in barrack no. 3 in ward no. 4 in the jail,the officials found a cellphone hidden by a jail inmate identified as Kalpesh Soni,a resident of Nadiad.

The teams took custody of the cellphone and lodged a complaint against Soni.

Surat district jail superintendent N A Desai said,“We will also try to find out from where the cellphones are coming into the jail. We have CCTV cameras in the jail and we will check the footage.”
