A day after freelance photographer Jayanti Dantani died in a freak accident during a procession in Vejalpur, the city police on Monday have arrested a constable with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),Dilipsinh Parmar,on charges his murder.

The stray bullet — that had hit Dantani during the traditional Var-Ghoda procession in Vejalpur on Sunday — was fired from Parmar’s licenced firearm (a .12 bore DBBL gun),police said.

“It was an unfortunate accident. Parmar had fired the gun shot in air,but the bullet hit Dantani in his head,” Vejalpur inspector R G Jadeja said.

Jadeja added that Parmar, who stays in Vejplur, was one of the invitees,at the sacred thread ceremony of the son of one Shailesh Joshi. Parmar had come to the Var-Ghoda procession with a loaded gun to celebrate by firing a couple of rounds in air, police added.

“Parmar later surrendered before the police along with his gun. He has been arrested on charges of a murder,” Jadeja added.
