CAT re-test held without errors

The delay was due to heavy fog,candidates quoted officials and invigilators as saying.

While some of the candidates said they were taking the re-test because of glitches like power-failure,registration mistakes and even absence during the last test,others did not know why they were asked to take the re-test.

A candidate from Mumbai working in Ahmedabad,said: “My test went completely fine,but they called me for a re-test. I don’t know why.” He had taken his first test at the LDRP Institute of Technology and Research,Gandhinagar.

An IT professional from Maharashtra,who had appeared in the first test there,said the glitch there — termed ‘Buffer Overflow’ — would probably not be recognised by anyone without an IT background.

“Buffer Overflow” is a process in which extra data is stored in a memory cache separate from the one intended,meaning this extra data overwrites the data in that cache,effectively deleting it.

“When time ran out at the test,the computer automatically closed the test and I saw a buffer overflow error. After that,I immediately called the help-line and then sent an email explaining the error,” said the candidate,who did not wish to be named fearing his results may get affected.

Saturday’s candidates came from various places like Kutch and neighbouring Maharashtra,besides Ahmedabad and adjacent towns,after they received emails from Prometric intimating them of the re-test about 10 days ago.
