Godhra verdict: Procedure begins to confirm sentence
Ahmedabad: The procedure for the confirmation of death sentence given to 11 convicts in the 2002 Godhra train burning case began today. As a mandatory legal procedure,the trial court has to send the case to the HC in case a death sentence has been awarded for the confirmation. The trial court presided over by District Judge P R Patel has sent the case papers to the HC for taking a decision on confirmation. A division bench of HC comprising Justices R R Tripathi and P P Bhatt have passed an order to prepare the paperbooks as per the rules.
Non-teaching GU staff threaten strike
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat University-affiliated Colleges Administrative Staff Association has announced that non-teaching staff in over 100 GU colleges would go on a strike from March 18 if their demand regarding promotion is not accepted. In a memorandum to higher education commissioner Jayanti Ravi,the association said that non-teaching staffers were hit badly as most of them were stagnating at their present positions. Ravi has given appointment to the association leaders for Thursday to hold deliberations and sort out the matter.
Labourer found murdered
AHMEDABAD: A labourer was found dead outside Bileshwar Estate in Odhav in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim was identified as Harikeshpal Ramswarooop (23),a migrant from worker from UP. He was working at a metal factory at Odhav GIDC. Police said the body bore multiple stab wounds. A case of murder was registered and investigations were on,they added.
Placement training programme ends
Ahmedabad: A three-day placement training programme for government and aided colleges under Gujarat University concluded on Wednesday. Organised by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat,UDISHA program hosted different industry personnel to train final-year undergraduate students.
