After wooing crowds for Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana Mission fasts, the BJP’s minority cell on Saturday launched the third leg of the communal harmony campaign called Sarva Samaj Ekta Samellan (all-community unity convention) from Jambusar in Bharuch district, which is home to Ahmed Patel, political adviser to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Bharuch district has four municipalities,of which three (Bharuch,Ankleshwar,Jambusar) are with the BJP. Only Amod is with the Congress. Bharuch district panchyat is also with the BJP.

On Saturday, the minority cell claimed to have collected nearly 5,000 people, including Hindus,Muslims,Christians and Parsis, along with their leaders. BJP senior leaders like Minister of State for Home Praful Patel,MP Bharatsinh Parmar and former minister Chhatrasinh Mori also attended the meeting. All of them spoke on Modi’s vision for communal harmony, peace and development in the state.

Now,the minority cell plans to replicate the Samellan in all the districts and major cities of the state.

Mehboob Ali Chisti, head priest of famous Atladara Dargah in Surat and president of state BJP’s minority cell, said,“To keep spreading CM’s Sadbhavana Misson for communal harmony in the state,we have started the Samellan from Jambusar in which leaders from different communities have participated. This campaign is the mirror image of CM’s Sadbhavana Mission and is aimed at communal harmony, brotherhood and peace in state.”

“We have planned to do the campaigning in all the district and major cities of the state in the next few months to spread the message of communal harmony,” Chisti said.

“After Modi’s Sadbhavana Mission fasts,Muslims and other minority communities are joining the party in sizeable numbers. For the first time, the Muslims in the state are realising that the Congress has used them for votes and never cared for their actual development. In last 10 years,Muslims in state have felt that they are part of development process,” he claimed.

The Sarva Samaj Ekta Samellan comes at a time when the BJP is smarting from the defeat in the Mansa Assembly bypoll.

The state BJP is planning to dent Congress’s Muslim vote-bank in the upcoming state Assembly elections which can help Modi project himself as a national leader.

Between September 2011 and February 2012,Modi had held 36 fasts under Sadbhavana Mission covering all districts and seven major cities in the state.

Modi, who has faced severe criticism for his alleged role in the post-Godhra communal riots in the state in 2002,started Sadbhavana Mission fast after a Supreme Court verdict in a case filed by Zakia Jafri, who had accused him of complicity in the communal violence.
