The pickup truck and one of the two-wheelers. ExpressA 21-year-old man from Bihar, found “very close” to the Line of Control (LOC) of the India-Pakistan border, was arrested and sent to judicial custody in Kutch last week, officers said.
The man, Sameer Shamsher Mohammad Ansari, a resident of Damodarpur in Muzaffarnagar, Bihar, was allegedly found “in suspicious circumstances” by an Assistant Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed at the Gujarat Frontier, near the Zazam Forward Border Outpost (BOP), on April 19, they added.
Officers said that the man told them that he was headed to a dargah (Sufi shrine) but lost his way.
Sagar Sambada, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of Bhachau Division of Kutch East Police, said, “While his presence was suspicious near the border, he said he had gone to visit a dargah in Bela village and then got lost. Investigation remains underway.”
Items found on Ansari included Rs 340 in Indian currency, a mobile phone, a passport, a bank pass book, Aadhaar card, PAN card, a college ID card, a train ticket from Muzaffarnagar to Rajkot, along with bus tickets from Rajkot to Samkhiyali and from Samkhiyali to Rapar, besides other miscellaneous personal items.
BSF officials detained him and took him to Balasar police station.
According to the FIR filed against him on behalf of the State by Mukesh Natwarlal Dave, the in-charge Police Inspector of Balasar Police Station, the man did not give a satisfactory response to his presence so close to the border.
He was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 223 (disobedience of orders promulgated by a public servant) as well as under section 3(6) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, which deals with unauthorised entry into a notified area.
Meanwhile, Kutch East SP Sagar Bagmar said that in light of Tuesday’s terror attack in Kashmir, joint patrolling and vehicle checks are being carried out by the police and BSF across the border district.
SP Dharmendra Sharma of the State Cybercrime Cell said that social media surveillance and online monitoring has been ramped up in the state with the police watching out for disinformation or rumour-mongering that could disturb the law and order in the state.
