Bhavnagar diamond firm owner robbed

Three unidentified persons on a motorbike allegedly assaulted owner of a diamond polishing unit and robbed him of diamonds worth Rs 99,000.

Three unidentified persons on a motorbike allegedly assaulted owner of a diamond polishing unit and robbed him of diamonds worth Rs 99,000 in Gariyadhar town of Bhavnagar district on Saturday night.

The owner,Dhiru Vyas (35),was on his way home on foot after completing the day’s work when a man hit him with an iron pipe on his head and ran away with 3,248 rough and half-polished diamonds kept in a bag. The assailant then sped away on a bike with two other men who were waiting for him,Gariyadhar police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Phoolwadi area of the town at around 8 pm,police said.

“Vyas runs a diamond polishing unit near his home and generally walks his way to and from the unit. He sustained injuries on his head and was rushed to a nearby hospital,” Gariyadhar Police Sub-Inspector Pratik Jinjuvadiya said.

“This is the first incident of diamond loot in Gariyadhar in recent years. We are questioning a few persons,” Jinjuvadiya added. Gariyadhar police have booked three unidentified men for robbery and started investigation.
