Authorities in the worst heat-wave affected districts in Gujarat have begun an awareness drive to acquaint people on the dos and donts to tackle the unprecedented heat.
In Idar in Sabarkantha,which has been recording the highest temperature of the season (on Friday,Idar registered 48.5 degree C,a record for Gujarat),the authorities are distributing pamphlets among the residents.
Sabarkantha District Collector Jai Prakash Shivhare said : Throughout the season,Idar has been in the spotlight for recording the maximum temperature. Taking cognisance of the same,we have started distributing pamphlets in Idar on ways to handle the situation.
He added: We have also approached the Forest Department for the long term goal of afforestation so that the temperature may go down in the coming years.
Similar measures are being taken by the district authorities in Banaskantha too.
We are creating awareness among the people on the dos and donts during summer. Besides,we are also guiding people on their eating habits during this season, said Banaskantha District Collector R J Patel.
In Anand,District Collector R N Joshi,who attended a conference in Gandhinagar on Friday,said the Agriculture Department has been asked to notify the farmers about the heat wave conditions.
