The step will allow the contesting advocates and their supporters to ‘nudge and remind’ the eligible voters to cast their vote.

IN AN attempt to increase the voter turnout in the December 19 Association polls, the Baroda Bar Association (BBA) is deploying technology to broadcast real-time voting data. The step will allow the contesting advocates and their supporters to ‘nudge and remind’ the eligible voters to cast their vote.

Stating that it is a first-of-its-kind experiment in an election, where the voting data will be streamed live through a link, Joint Election Commissioner of BBA Advocate Hitesh Gupta said that the digitisation of records followed by creating a personalised software for the Association has enabled it to come up with implementing real-time voter details on the date of the polls.

Gupta said, “We have 4515 eligible voters out of 4900 voters. It is for the first time ever that an election will have real-time data of voters who have cast their votes, available to the public. This is an example of maximum utilisation of digitalization of the records. One of our Joint Election Commissioners Advocate Hitesh Patel has developed a personalised software programme using available apps… With the help of Google forms, photographs of the voters are uploaded in the voter list and this digital list will be on display in real time.”

As soon as the ballot paper is issued at the polling booth, the name of the voter will display on the link that the association plans to make available on its social media handles so that contesting groups can nudge and remind their supporters to cast votes. “So far, in BBA elections, we have never seen the voter turnout exceed 70%.

We hope that this year, we will have a record in terms of the voter turnout  and this system will benefit candidates and supporters.
