Appoint retired teachers to fill vacant posts in state-run schools on interim basis: Gujarat govt order
Such teachers shall continue to work until a permanent teacher is appointed in the school through transfer or recruitment, or until a gyan sahayak is appointed, according to the order

To meet the shortage of teachers in government schools, the state government on Friday issued an order to employ retired government school teachers on an honorarium basis till these posts are filled with regular appointments.
The Gujarat government has given its nod to assigning teaching work to retired teachers as an interim arrangement for the posts that are still vacant despite regular recruitment of teachers and appointment of gyan sahayaks (contractual teachers) in government primary schools as well as government and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools of the state.
“In order to urgently meet the shortage of posts falling vacant due to retirement of teachers in government and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools of the state, if the posts remain vacant even after regular appointment, as part of the temporary arrangement, the education work may be assigned to retired teachers of government and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools who have retired,” the order issued stated.
According to the conditions, the maximum age limit of teachers recruited after retirement should not exceed 62. Such retired teachers shall continue to work until a permanent teacher is appointed in the school through transfer or recruitment or until a gyan sahayak is appointed. Such retired teachers shall be released at the end of the academic year, according to the order.
For this work, the retired secondary and higher secondary teachers will be paid an honorarium equal to the amount paid to gyan sahayaks. They will not be eligible for any other financial or service benefits.
Teachers who wish to work after retirement will have to apply to the District Education Officer’s office, according to the order. The District Education Officer concerned will have to assign the work to the retired teachers if the gyan sahayak is not available as per the waiting list maintained by the department’s latest rules, the order stated.
