APMC commission agents end strike

The three-day-long stand-off between the commission agents and traders at Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Rajkot ended on Wednesday.

The three-day-long stand-off between the commission agents and traders at Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Rajkot ended on Wednesday evening after the chairman of the yard threatened to lock up the premises from Thursday if they didn’t come out with a viable solution.

APMC chairman Hardevsingh Jadeja called a meeting of representatives of commission agents and traders in the afternoon and reportedly asked them to resolve the issue. “The two parties had been striking work for the last three days inconveniencing hundreds of farmers who wanted to sell their commodities. I made it clear to the two parties that there was no point in keeping the APMC open from Thursday onwards if they were not to auction and buy commodities,” Jadeja told The Indian Express.

Apparently, buckling under pressure, the traders’ association conceded to commission agents’ demand of reducing the credit period by a day.

“Accepting the chairman’s request,we have agreed to make payment on the third day to commission agents,” Suresh Chandarana, president of traders association, said.
