AMC school board takes Vivekananda to students

On the basis of the workbooks and exercises completed by students, they would be awarded with certificates.

As a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) School Board distributed two books dedicated to Vivekananda among 22,300 students. These students represent Class IV to VI and Class VII till VIII.

The criteria set for the selection of these students included first three toppers, those who compered the admission drive Praveshotsa, participated in singing competition and science fair and those who have maximum attendance.

The two books — Yashasvi Vidyarthi Jeevan Ane Swami Vivekananda and Narenthi Veer Sanyasi Vivekananda —  along with their workbooks, are being published by Rajkot’s Shri Ramkrishna Ashram.

As per the AMC School Board directives, students have to take home and read these books and then fill the workbooks for each and then return the workbooks to the school authorities.

On the basis of the workbooks and exercises completed by students, they would be awarded with certificates.  Those who make sincere efforts in anwsering questions based on the life of Vivekananda would be awarded with scholarships. Three banks, including nationalised and private, have sponsored these books and workbooks.

When contacted, the chairman of AMC school board said, “The project has been undertaken so that students can learn stories from the life of Swami Vivekananda. This will help them develop their character, imbibe a sense of nationalism and turn them into a good citizen. We have not incurred any amount on this as it was contributed by three banks under CSR. These books have already been distributed among the students.”

As many as 13,020 students have been selected from Class IV to VI while 9,380 students from Class VII till VIII.
