A quality assessment team of the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board visited Sabarmati Hindi School No 2 and also made a surprise inspection at Sabarmati Tamil School No 2 in the same premises on Tuesday evening.
The team comprised M J Thakkar,Assistant Manager,Finance Department,AMC; N R Sadhu,senior clerk,Finance Department,AMC; and Dr Akhtarkhan H Pathan,Co-ordinator of Cluster Research Centre (CRC),Madhavpura ward-run under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA).
At Tamil School,Thakkar tested the reading,writing and arithmetic skills of Class III students by putting the questions in Hindi,which was interpreted by S Segar,assistant head master of the school.
He expressed happiness over the students performance.
Asked about the parents involvement in their children’s education,school principal Kanchana Bapu Naidu said: Generally,both the parents work in unorganised sector to make both ends meet. They are illiterate and cannot take out time to help their kids do homework.
V Raja,general secretary of the Ahmedabad Tamil Parents Association,meanwhile,complained that many textbooks published in Tamil by the Gujarat Board of School Textbooks have not been distributed for the last two years.
On the quality of computer education,Raja said only Sabarmati Tamil School No 2 has 16 computers four supplied by the AMC and 12 presented by the Torrent Power Limited under its CSR initiative. In other schools,he said,only theory classes are held.
