The Ahmedabad Railway Station at Kalupur in Ahmedabad City will be developed on the theme of Modhera Sun Temple in the next five years, Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced Sunday.

The Sabarmati Railway Station in the city will also be developed in a grand manner while providing connectivity to destinations of South India, the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP added.

“Today, along with numerous developmental works done, I guarantee you that our Ahmedabad’s railway station, too, will (be developed). You just (wait and) see Ahmedabad Railway Station after five years.  (Narendra) Modiji has visualised it, Ahmedabad’s railway station will be developed as grand as Modhera Sun Temple,” Shah said while addressing a public function to dedicate a sports complex and lay foundation stone for various developmental projects worth Rs 211 crore in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency from Manipur village in Ahmedabad district.

Modhera Sun Temple is located in Mehsana, neighbouring Ahmedabad district. Built in the 11th century during the Chalukya dynasty in honour of the Sun God, it is one of the major tourist destinations in North Gujarat.

Elaborating on developing the Sabarmati Railway Station, he said: “Trains that don’t go to South (India) from Sabarmati will also be connected. We are going to make sure that passengers bound for South India-whether you want to go to Mumbai or Kankyakumari—get trains from Sabarmati so that they don’t need to go to Kalupur (or Ahmedabad main railway station).”

The Union Minister also announced that 14 lakes in areas of Ahmedabad city and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) will be inter-connected. Besides, a tourist centre will also be developed at the cost of Rs 100 crore.

Shah added that he was to chair a meeting in this regard Sunday itself. He also said that 1,200 new ponds will be developed in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha region.
