Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2: Titagarh Rail Systems awarded Rs 350-cr contract for 10 trains
In June, the GMRC awarded a contract worth Rs 866 crore to supply 24 trains for Phase 1 of the under-construction Surat Metro to the firm, which was the lone bidder. The number of bidders for the GMRC’s rolling stock tender could not be immediately known.

A contract worth Rs 350 crore has been given by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) to Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd to provide 10 trains for Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro. A Letter of Acceptance (LoA) was given to the Kolkata-based firm on Tuesday for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of the trains, GMRC officials told The Indian Express.
The metro line will connect GIFT City and Gandhinagar, the state capital, by 2024. Each of the 10 trains will have a configuration of three cars. This is the second order that the GMRC (Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited) has given to Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd in the last 60 days.

Korean firm Hyundai Rotem supplied 32 sets of trains, manufactured in South Korea, for Phase 1 of Ahmedabad Metro at a cost of Rs 1,025 crore. When asked if any challenges could emerge with metro trains being manufactured by two different suppliers for Ahmedabad Metro, a senior GMRC official said, “The trains are usually integrated with the signaling systems, accessories on stations, etc. As the signalling system for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 is the same, there won’t be any major issues in integration. Moreover, the trains that will be built for Phase 2 will almost be similar to the ones already in operation on Phase 1 routes.”
The 28.2-km-long Phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir (with a spur line to GIFT City) was approved by the central government in February 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 5,384 crore.
Its foundation was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2019.
