Afghan,Indonesian national anthems played at GTU function

Afghan and Indonesian students,studying MBA at the Gujarat Technological University (GTU),were touched when their national anthems were played during the national day celebration of the two countries.

Afghan and Indonesian students,studying MBA at the Gujarat Technological University (GTU),were touched when their national anthems were played during the national day celebration of the two countries.

The programme was organised by GTU on Saturday. A statement issued by the varsity said it was a rare experience to see Afghan students performing their traditional dance in their customary attire to represent their art and culture in India at the event. The GTU campus also buzzed with national anthem of Indonesia,apart from that of India,on the occasion.

Irawan Sutiono from Indonesia,project manager of Inbisco India,one of the fastest-growing distribution companies in India,said he was happy to get a chance to celebrate Independence Day of his country at GTU. He said his company was setting up a plant at Sanand,which would go into operation by 2014 end and would also be recruiting people for operations.

Pratibha Pandya,Afghan project coordinator of Ahmedabad-based NGO Self Employed Women’s Association,shared a presentation of the work of her centre for empowerment of women in Kabul where they train Afghan women for food processing.

Welcoming the students,GTU V-C Akshai Aggarwal said MBA students need to be educated in global business practices since the whole world is inter-connected. He deliberated on the correlation between US economy,Indian economy and the world economy.
